The Denktaş exhibition, researched and prepared by Mine Kar and Cem Kar, opened at the Fine Arts Gallery under the title “Rauf Denktaş in Photographs,” marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Founding President Rauf Denktaş. It was organized by the Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism.
Eskişehir Deputy Governor Okan Leblebicier, Tepebaşı Mayor Ahmet Ataç, Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Bülent Avnamak, Denktaş’s son Serdar Denktaş, and members of the Eskişehir branch of the Turkish Combat Veterans Association attended the opening.
At a panel held after the exhibition opened, Serdar Denktaş spoke about the history of the Cyprus problem and his father Rauf Denktaş’s life.
For the exhibition, Mine Kar and Cem Kar were granted access to the private archive of Rauf R. Denktaş, founding President of the TRNC, and selected more than 250 photographs from among 50,000. The photographs are accompanied by Denktaş’s own words, compiled from dozens of sources.
The exhibition draws attention with previously unseen photographs of Denktaş, images from his childhood and family life, photographs from the years of struggle, and his words shedding light on the history of Cyprus.
The exhibition has so far been shown in various Turkish cities, including Ankara, Antalya, Trabzon, and Kayseri. It is planned to open in Aydın in October and in England in November. The exhibition can also be visited virtually on denktassergi.com, a site created by ACM Cyprus.
