“His Life in Photographs and His Own Words: The Rauf R. Denktaş Exhibition,” prepared by Mine Kar and Cem Kar, will open on Thursday, January 27, at the Congress and Culture Center on Kayseri University’s July 15 Campus. “His Life in Photographs and His Own Words: The Rauf R. Previously held in Ankara, Antalya and Ercan Airport, the exhibition was prepared by Mine Kar and Cem Kar with the Denktaş family’s permission, drawing on the private archive of Rauf R. Denktaş, the TRNC’s founding president.
For the exhibition, 250 photographs were carefully selected from the 50,000 images in Denktaş’s photographic archive. The photographs were contextualized by consulting both Denktaş’s own books and other books featuring his words.
The exhibition features unseen photographs that shed light on the private life of Rauf Denktaş, the founding president of the TRNC, and the history of Cyprus, as well as photographs of his childhood, family and years of struggle, and images taken through his own lens.
These features make the exhibition particularly significant for its portrayal, through photographs, of Denktaş and the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for freedom and independence.
