AYGIN SIGNS A $118 MILLION DEAL!

Ada TV program producer Cem Kar revealed that Sümer Aygın, who launched a campaign against a skyscraper, had signed on to a $118 million project Cem KAR In a report by Haluk Doğandor that appeared on the front page of Star Kıbrıs dated 28.03.11, we reported that Sümer Aygın had supported a skyscraper project in 2006. Immediately after the report, Sümer Aygın held a press conference and described our story as a journalistic success. At the same press conference, Aygın said, “I may have made a mistake in the past,” and stated that he was also opposed to skyscrapers. Following these remarks, I decided to look into the matter and obtained the agreement for the skyscraper project that an Israeli company had planned to build at the time. The agreement shows that every detail was addressed meticulously, clause by clause. The signature section reveals that the agreement was approved not only by Mayor Sümer Aygın, who said he was opposed to skyscrapers, but also by the Municipal Council of the time. The planned $118 million mega-project also included a new Girne Municipality building. According to the information I obtained, the project cost is $800,000.

AYGIN SIGNS

Last week, Aygın said, “I may have made a mistake in the past.” It seems that the “mistake” in question was an “$800,000 mistake.” In other words, $800,000 went down the drain when the project failed to materialize despite the signed agreement. Another document I obtained shows that the company seeking to carry out the project also undertook to deposit 15 percent of the total cost ($118 million) with a bank as security. To avoid facing any legal problems when signing the agreement, Aygın added a handwritten note of his own, essentially stating that “the contract would be invalid in any eventuality.” This kept the $800,000 “mistake” out of the legal process. That is what happened in 2006; it remains to be seen what will happen to the project now under discussion.
