‘TV Programming’ Discussed at LAÜ

Cem Kar, a TV program host and journalist, was a guest at the conference titled “TV Programming, Seen and Unseen,” organized by the Faculty of Communication Sciences at Lefke European University (LAÜ).

Focusing mainly on current events in the media in the TRNC and Turkey, Cem Kar said that the media is a powerful structure and a tool that brings unknown matters to light and presents them to the public in all their detail. Explaining the media’s watchdog and guiding role, Kar said that when the media manages this role well, it helps ensure that society receives accurate news.

Continuing his presentation, Kar said that media organizations need to have the necessary financial resources, particularly to be able to broadcast freely, and that these resources could be secured through advertising revenue and by increasing the contributions provided by the state to media organizations.

In response to students’ questions, Kar shared up-to-date information about the industry and concluded by emphasizing that television stations should prioritize their duty to inform the public accurately and promptly, and especially adopt an approach to broadcasting based on impartiality. At the end of the conference, Prof. Dr. Belkıs Ayhan Tarhan, Dean of LAÜ’s Faculty of Communication Sciences, presented Cem Kar with a certificate of appreciation.
