The “Rauf Denktaş: A Leader Who Left His Mark on History” photography exhibition, organized in collaboration between Girne American University (GAU) and the Ankara Journalists’ Association and held as the first event of GAU’s Rauf Raif Denktaş Cyprus Studies Center, is reopening.

The exhibition, which was officially opened by President Derviş Eroğlu at a ceremony at Spectrum Hall in the International Congress Center on GAU’s Cyprus Campus, Girne Campus, as part of the July 20 Peace and Freedom Day state program and celebrations, and attracted a steady stream of visitors for 15 days, will reopen with the 2012–2013 academic year.

The exhibition, organized last month in collaboration between Girne American University and the Journalists’ Association as the first event of the Rauf Raif Denktaş Cyprus Studies Center established within GAU, brought more than 100 previously unpublished photographs to the Turkish Cypriot public.

The photographs in the exhibition, which will reopen in the exhibition and foyer area of Spectrum Hall at the International Congress Center on GAU’s Cyprus Campus, Girne Campus, were selected with great care after the archive of the late Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş was catalogued. Journalist and writer Cem Kar, Mine Çeliker, and Ali Oruç made significant contributions to the selection of the photographs, and the exhibition had attracted considerable interest from the public in the TRNC and Turkey.
