You Can't Blow Through My Money

The people are equal before the state. Yet in the TRNC, the people are not equal in the eyes of the state! “Individuals should be equal within the state. The primary duty of those who govern the state is to eliminate inequality among the people…”

The people are equal before the state.

Yet in the TRNC, the people are not equal in the eyes of the state!

Sentences like “Individuals should be equal within the state. The primary duty of those who govern the state is to eliminate inequality among the people” cannot get beyond being “nonsense” in our country.

I will return to this subject later…

The most significant achievement(!) of those who have governed our state since its founding has been to grant various institutions within the state “little empires.”

If we are talking about “the period since the founding of the TRNC,” then commenting without mentioning the UBP is, without a doubt, tantamount to “being out of one's mind”…

It is plain to see that the economic situation we have reached is dire.

In these circumstances, the determination of these little empires not to give up even an inch of the rights they won in past years and that sustain them today, together with the UBP being in government, makes you want to say, “God has no stick.”

Because this is no laughing matter anymore.

The AKP government—in other words, Turkey—is now saying this openly: “You will take back the unfair, meaningless, unequal rights you have granted… If you don't, that's up to you…” (As will be recalled, the CTP-ÖRP government interpreted the “that's up to you” part as a call for early elections.)

In other words, it is saying:

“You can't squander my money just to stay in power, as you have done before. You must create a sustainable economic structure. You must do this not for us, but for yourselves.”

Now, let's turn to equality…

Tell me, which private company pays 13, 14, or 15 salaries a year?

At which private school can a teacher say, “I'm not coming in today”?

Which private-sector employees receive allowances for holidays, New Year's, birthdays, and whatever other day you can think of?

At which private company can you get paid without going to work?

Don't anyone come out with nonsense like, “My friend, let's raise the private sector to this level”…

Because:

You, as political parties, will hand state resources over to unions and whoever else in exchange for votes. The unions and whoever else will use those resources to build their own little empires and secure gains beyond anyone's wildest imagination. Then, when taking these gains away comes up—and even though they know it is impossible—they will say, “Why are you dragging us down? Raise the private sector to our level.” We've looked after ourselves; everyone else can do what they like… What a sly lot…

Mr. Taçoy has lit the first spark!

The 14th salary has been abolished at KTHY, which has debts of millions of dollars.

“It's never too late,” he says, and I would add: “This debt didn't arise today. Why were 14 salaries being paid until now? What about the 13th salaries?”

Knowing that the state is in this condition and that it is clearly not sustainable, I want to ask those who refuse to make any concessions and are trying to keep their little empires going: If the UBP cannot carry out reforms like the CTP and goes to early…[truncated] elections, who will you bring to power in this country? Will the people you bring in have any chance of doing anything differently?

Until Thursday, I hope…
