From the opposition to the ruling party, almost every candidate is talking about the country's problems.

Let's mention a few:

\- It would not be wrong to say that every party supports a solution to the Cyprus issue. The debates taking place on this point actually reveal a ridiculous situation. At a time when the parties are accusing one another of not wanting a solution by putting the word “actually” before it, it is obvious that no party has a solution in its hands. Given this, I cannot understand why the parties use the Cyprus issue as an argument.

\- Whether it was “the global crisis in the world” that affected us, or “our country was already in crisis,” and so on, it is crystal clear that the state of the TRNC economy is deplorable. The economy has hit rock bottom. Alongside these problems, retail sales in the country have shifted to the Greek side. However you look at it, things are not good for us!

\- The “public sector” in our country has become a complete swamp. The burden the public sector places on the budget amounts to more than half of the country's economy. In fact, if no measures are taken and the necessary reforms are not made immediately, the country will have to declare bankruptcy! The situation is that serious…

\- Although the former health minister made some optimistic efforts and tried to solve the problem through reforms, serious problems remain. In other words, anyone who tries to touch the health sector gets burned! The problems have piled up…

-…

(You can add your own problems to the final item, too!)

It is heartening that so many people are running to govern a country with this many problems.

It seems there are dozens of people in our country willing to step up and take responsibility!

Still, I can't help but have my doubts about this!

Given that we have so many problems that have persisted and accumulated over the years, why didn't those who have governed the country until now solve them in good time?

Instead of solving the problems, what did they do?

Actually, these days we are hearing answers to the question “What did they do?” from those very same politicians. The information politicians who accuse one another of seeking “rents” are providing is not only hard to stomach; it also gives us an idea of what was done in the past. This is where doubts begin to arise: One can't help asking whether the elections are “a fight over rents.”

The funny thing is that politicians are trying to put this question into people's minds. But although this question, created by party members competing to accuse one another, turns our stomachs, I don't think that's what the elections are about.

All the same, I should say that I have written this because I thought it worthwhile to remind all the politicians running for office, and especially those just entering politics, what they are running for.

Hope to see you on Friday…

Pay attention to your surroundings, keep them clean, and please be respectful on the road!
