I don’t know how aware we are of it, but our lives are spent ‘choosing.’

However, making a choice is sometimes difficult…

Sometimes we come to a crossroads and have to make a decision about our work or our lives. We have to make a choice, and our choice will change our lives. We think it through; we have to make a choice, and we do! We come to understand the consequences of our choice over time, but the part that interests me is the process of choosing… During this process, we try to see what lies ahead, reason things out, carefully weigh the pros and cons in our minds, and, of course, consider the circumstances of the day before reaching the point of making a decision. The same question is always on our minds: ‘What if I choose wrong?’ This question shapes and prolongs the process, creating stress within us. Ultimately, decisions come with responsibility; their consequences affect the person making the choice and their family! And sometimes there is no going back!

But there are some choices whose decision-making process we go through without realizing it; the decision we make is about our feelings! We choose a life partner! Storms rage in our hearts. We have even given it a name: Love… The words ‘This is the person I’ve been looking for’ cross our minds; this realization is, in fact, a sign that we are making a choice. Yes, before we know it, we find ourselves in a wedding hall. The process of choosing has not been painful for us! But as time passes, the thought ‘Did I make the wrong choice?’ gnaws at our minds. There is someone who chooses and someone who is chosen; sometimes, the result of this choice is children… That is why the pain absent when making the choice makes itself felt when trying to go back. Ultimately, decisions come with responsibility; their consequences affect the person who chooses, the person chosen, and sometimes the children too.

Some wrong choices, on the other hand, lead only to financial loss or being scolded. For example, buying a dud watermelon is a sign that you’ll hear complaints at home. Or anything we fail to buy enough of costs us money. The decision-making process doesn’t tire us much. We make our choice and get positive or negative results. Ultimately, we alone are responsible for the decision, but its consequences can be brushed aside, and often there is a way back. Sometimes we choose people to govern us… Some of us choose those we love, while others choose whoever manages to convince them. In other words, the decision-making process depends on who we choose. These are the times when we make the least effort among all our choices. In fact, sometimes those we are choosing pander to us! As we make our decision, we don’t have to tell anyone about our worries; those we are choosing make a tremendous effort to learn about all of them and find solutions. But things change when the people who pampered us while we were choosing them come to power. This time, those who did the choosing make a tremendous effort to air their concerns. In fact, sometimes their troubles multiply! Ultimately, the decision comes with responsibility, and whether the outcome is good or bad concerns society as a whole; it is not a personal matter…

There will be an election soon! With this awareness, rather than voting based on logos, we should keep a close eye on politicians as informed voters and recognize the responsibility we have taken on. We should not forget that politics, the art of governing, and the politicians who practice it occupy a position from which they shape our lives and solve our problems; for this reason, we cannot afford to say things like “We don’t trust politicians” or “Politics bores me” during this process! I hope to see you on Thursday in my article titled ‘Being Elected’!
