RIDICULOUS

IDEAS(!)

(Publication

Date: March 16, 2007)

You can interpret

what you are about to read however you like.

If I were reading an article

like this, I would do the same.

But as you read these lines,

don’t forget to ask yourself questions!

Who knows, perhaps the

questions you ask will open up possibilities for your thoughts that are far beyond what you perceive.

***

Sometimes the dreams you

dream give rise to thoughts/ideas that seem so absurd to you that even the thought of them going around in your mind seems ridiculous.

Yes, they are ridiculous

ideas; but when you consider whether they are any more ridiculous than what is actually happening, you find yourself questioning the absurdity of your idea.

I think I’m in this process

myself, and I have many “ridiculous” ideas and questions on my mind!

I’ll set them out in order:

(Note: When you finish

reading this article, please reflect on what I’ve written, not on my mental health!)

—Did we really go to the

Moon? If we did, why haven’t the Americans opened a church there yet?

All right, they didn’t open a church, but why didn’t Bush declare war on the Moon on the pretext that its craters aren’t symmetrical and/or that there are too many holes, making it an anti-democratic order?

—How would a citizen of any

EU country interpret the uproar over there being one more crossing at Lokmacı? Were there crossings in the past? What would happen if one of today’s politicians stood up and said, “I’ve closed all the crossings, my friend—you’re left with no way through”? What would tourists who can’t enter our country, but think they are within the borders of the European Union, think if they couldn’t pass through these crossings?

Or how much do they care? Why should it matter to us whether they care?

Doesn’t this concern the Greek Cypriots? Let’s say they do care. Wouldn’t they say to the Greek Cypriots, “Hey, weren’t you in control here? Look, we can’t enter territory that is within the EU’s borders. Sort this out!”

Would the Greek Cypriots tell us, “Come on, open these crossings—we’ve been fooling these guys for years, so don’t spoil the game now”? Even if they did, who among us would give a damn about the Greek Cypriots?

Given all this, why are we helping the Greek Cypriots? Is opening the crossings very important to us, or to them? What have we gained or lost since the crossings opened, and what would we lose if they were closed? What would the EU say about this? Would it say to us, “Why did you close these crossings, then?” Well, don’t we have anything at all to say to them? I think we do! We can tell them many things they promised us but haven’t delivered, such as: first sort out the direct trade regulation, lift the isolation, let planes land here, and so on… Would that mean cutting ourselves off completely from the world? Why would it? Is the situation any different now? Or would that upset our European friends? Well, so what if they’re upset? Don’t they upset us?

—Is there life in space or

not? How important is that? And what would we do if there were? Or let me put the question this way: Let’s assume there is life in space!

And they got bored and came to Earth. They’re just hovering above our cities in vehicles we’ve given the silly name “UFOs”—so, a situation just like the one in M. Night Shyamalan’s film “Signs.” What would we do then? Scare them with water? Or, like in the film, make funnels out of foil and put them on our heads? Hasn’t humankind always been afraid of what it doesn’t know? What is this question, “I wonder if there’s life in space”? Wouldn’t it be better for us if there weren’t? Leave the aliens alone, my friend… Don’t disturb their peace or ours.

—Does there have to be a

solution? Don’t you need two sides for there to be a solution? Otherwise, doesn’t this drive a person toward “schizophrenia”? How else can asking for a one-sided solution be explained? Is there no other way to resolve the problem? Is it a dead end? Is it compulsory? What is all this talk of a “solution”? Are different approaches and ideas in politics forbidden? What is this vicious circle? Doesn’t this cycle drive society toward schizophrenia? Is that why our ancestors came up with the saying, “Don’t be a bridegroom all by yourself”? Where did that saying come from?

*

As I said at the outset,

you may describe different ideas as “ridiculous”!

But when you analyze the

current situation, ideas that initially seem ridiculous to you may start to make sense. What matters here is that you don’t fall into a state of idea poverty and/or restrict freedom of thought!

Try not to limit your

dreams and thoughts, no matter how ridiculous they may be…

As Albert

Enistein also said:

“Imagination

is more important than knowledge!”

See you on

Monday… Be courteous in traffic!
