The LTB 2013 by-election took place after an interesting election period and produced an interesting result. You must have followed the opinions, comments and discussions about the low turnout and the polls...
In my view, the low turnout is not something to react to by saying, “Wow, how could this happen?” Turnout was low in the previous election as well. And given the situation at the LTB and what has happened there, it is understandable that citizens have lost faith. One consequence of this situation was that the party that organized well also won.
I would like to congratulate the winning candidate, Mr. Kadri Fellahoğlu.
On the other hand, I think it is a very positive development that Nicosia was cleaned up the other day with the support of five municipalities. There is no doubt that Nicosia really needed it... Every area had been full of rubbish for months, so this was a good thing.
Still, I cannot help questioning the sincerity of the mayors who stepped in to help Nicosia only after the election, despite the city having been in this state for months. If this kind of solidarity was possible, why did these mayors and the other municipalities not show this concern and provide the necessary care for months? Why did they wait for the election? In particular, why did Gönyeli Municipality not do anything about the rubbish in its next-door neighbour, Nicosia, until now...? While environmental pollution and public health had reached such dangerous levels, and Nicosia was buried in rubbish, these municipalities and the others did nothing for months...
Yes, perhaps it was not possible for them to take responsibility for their own areas and keep cleaning Nicosia on an ongoing basis. But given the state the city was in, I think all the municipalities should have stepped in... Anyway, let’s say better late than never and move on...
Bravo to the traffic police...
For years, I have been saying and writing this at every opportunity, both in the newspaper and on television...
I have said that the state does not lie in wait for its citizens, and does not see them as a source of money. I have explained that if speed cameras are to be used, signs must be put up.
At last, someone thought of it, and speed cameras are now being used with signs in place. I hope our police, having found the right way, will continue this practice.
We should still give credit where it is due... Bravo...
