Future (CO) Managers
First of all, happy “April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day” to all our people.
Well, there are so many things on my mind this week that I want to share with you.
But I’ll only be able to touch on a few.
***
Last week, there were two important events for our country.
One was the “Civil Defense Exercise.”
The other was the “Environment Congress.”
***
There is such a connection between these two events that it undoubtedly concerns every segment of society.
In other words, these two issues are so important that you cannot bring politics, commercial interests, or personal interests into them.
Nor can you remain indifferent.
All you can do is question yourself by asking, “What can I do about this?”
What I’m saying is, “You are involved in these matters, and without any self-interest.”
So what is this connection?
Let me explain...
***
We are destroying our environment so ruthlessly that the importance of civil defense is naturally increasing.
What is sad at this point
is that, as we continue to destroy our environment with such indifference, we are forced to create defense mechanisms for ourselves.
Things have come to this.
We also know that an environmental disaster like this will cause us trouble.
What we attack will certainly not remain unresponsive.
In other words, there will be a desire for revenge involved in this.
The one seeking revenge against us is not our commercial rival, our political rival, or our neighbor Ahmet Efendi, or anyone like that.
It is far more powerful.
Even more powerful than we can imagine.
“Mother Nature.”
But who are we to do this?
We are making such a powerful enemy for ourselves.
What is the source of the “self-confidence” that makes us so brave?
Nothing.
***
We are creatures who think only of ourselves.
There is no other creature in nature so selfish.
That being the case,
how effective can the defense mechanisms we have created for ourselves, which I mentioned above, really be?
That is precisely why it means something that the two important events I mentioned at the beginning took place at the same time.
***
If we do not develop policies on the environment, if politicians and environmental organizations do nothing about this, then the successful Civil Defense Organization exercise that I witnessed in person during the week would have meant nothing.
What is sad at this point
is that some people are trying to take measures against those who destroy the environment, even though this is such an important issue.
In other words, the environment has reached a point where it cannot be entrusted to humankind without certain rules.
How degrading.
How sad.
And yet how true.
That is why I say, “Future Carbon Monoxide (CO) Managers.”
On this very important day, “April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day,” which the Great Leader Atatürk gifted to our children—the ones we regard as our future, and who care about it far more than any of us—I want you to think about just one thing: Will we leave our children, our grandchildren, our future, an environment like this?
Is this what they deserve?
What a terrible inheritance...
APRIL 24
As far as I can tell from following the press, there is an event.
How nice!
In fact, again as far as I can tell from following the press, this event is so sacred that some media organizations cannot even tolerate the slightest criticism of it from an opposing perspective.
Yet those organizations continue to publish thanks to the benefits of democracy.
But they cannot show the same sensitivity to even the slightest criticism.
How sad.
There is also the term “status quo supporter,” which I am now thoroughly tired of—a term that has been taken far from its meaning, used to divide society, and constantly repeated like stale chewing gum. By their way of thinking, they are being accused of being “status quo supporters.”
In other words, this term, distorted far from its meaning, has begun to be used to accuse people.
How simplistic.
As a “status quo supporter,” to use their terminology, I want to say this: Friends, why aren’t you doing something about the fact that we are not recognized?
If we showed the same sensitivity to our lack of recognition and to the injustices done to us, some things would be much easier.
At least society would come together on common ground.
People would not be used for someone’s political interests.
But if those being used in this matter are happy, there is nothing I can do or say.
The only thing I will say is this:
Come on, friends, let’s do it together.
Let’s even make it a regular thing.
Let’s hold demonstrations on certain days every month and come together at events.
But let’s do it all together.
Let’s not become political fodder.
And let’s not forget:
Only if we stand united, stand firm, and respond together to our social problems and the injustices done to us will we make things easier for our politicians, businesspeople, athletes, and so on.
Otherwise, with such bogus, artificially created events tailored to the conditions of the day, we will only serve someone’s interests.
