Turkey’s 9th President Süleyman Demirel addressed the Greek Cypriots’ drilling activities in remarks made while receiving Ahmet Göksan, President of the Turkish Cypriot Cultural Association, Vice President M. Erol Ekenleroğlu, and Cem Kar, director and author of the documentary film and book “Unknown Prisoners.” Demirel noted that peace came to Cyprus in 1974 and that the Greek Cypriot side’s actions on the island, such as oil exploration, were actions that undermined peace. He said that Turkey, a major state, would always stand by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
