The screenings of the “Unknown Prisoners” documentary in Turkey continue in Ankara.
As part of its screenings in Turkey, the documentary, which had its Izmir premiere the other day, was also presented yesterday at 7:00 p.m. at Çankaya Municipality’s Contemporary Arts Center. The Izmir premiere of the “Unknown Prisoners” documentary film and book was held at the Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan Alsancak Cultural Arts Center, organized by Konak Municipality and the TRNC İzmir Consulate. İzmir deputy governors, the Konak Mayor, the TRNC İzmir Consul General, and residents of İzmir attended the gala. At the gala, TRNC İzmir Consul Uğur Umar began his speech by thanking Konak Municipality and Cem Kar, and emphasized the struggle for survival waged by Turkish Cypriots between 1963 and 1974, saying, “What happened between the first operation and the second operation is an important chapter in our history. The Unknown Prisoners documentary film and book, which draws attention to those days, is therefore of great significance.”
Konak Mayor Hakan Tartan, İzmir Deputy Governor Ardahan Totuk, and Cem Kar also each gave a speech at the event. The screening concluded with the presentation of a plaque to Cem Kar, a cocktail reception, and a book-signing event.
