Every time, I delete what I’ve written, telling myself, “No, Cem, you’re not ready to write yet.”
But this time, I think I’m ready to write…
Because I, too, have missed communicating with you this way again.
I hadn’t written for a long time…
I don’t know what you’ve been through during this time, but I had to make many decisions about my personal life. In my personal opinion, writing while making those decisions would not have been the right thing to do. So I tried not to write. I say “tried” because I started writing many times, and every time I deleted what I’d written…
It was a difficult and critical period for me, but now I’ve entered a ‘different’ period…
Different!
A different period and a different life...
An inheritance left to me by all that has happened…
A different life, one I’m not used to, whose worth I’ll decide for myself…
Perhaps it sounds frightening, but this difference actually heralds a ‘future’ that is just as exciting.
The future!
The future that often offers you a life different from the one you believe you’ve planned, within a life where little schemes are constantly afoot… Isn’t that future what gives you hope, what makes you cling tightly to life every time…
But if the actors in the future you’ve planned change, what kind of future awaits you?
There’s no doubt you’ll find yourself facing a future different from the one you planned…
And that frightens you at first. Because when you say ‘difference,’ what you really mean is ‘something new.’
Something new!
Something new—something that actually promises a change to the routine life you’re always complaining about… Don’t mind your complaints about routine life. If you remove an important element from that routine, you suddenly try to hold on to it…
Because that’s when the anxieties set in…
So yes, new things often add color to your life; but any change you make in your life also conceals a great deal of ‘uncertainty.’
Uncertainty!
The uncertainty that confronts you at every turning point in life…[truncated] Uncertainty is what drives you to anxiety and pushes you to build a different life; it enables you to reimagine your future through that difference and brings new things into your life. It is the most important factor shaping your life.
That was exactly the uncertainty I experienced during the period I’ve just left behind…
Fortunately, with the decisions I’ve made, I’ve imagined a different future and added new things to my life, freeing it from uncertainty… The interesting thing is that the life I’m talking about changed exactly five years ago today, and now I’ve changed that life… I hadn’t written for a long time, and I felt obliged to explain myself to you. That’s why I’m writing this…
Anyway, I’m writing again now, and I’m once again enjoying reaching you through my favorite form of communication, just as I did a month and a half ago…
