National Unity Party (UBP) parliamentary candidate Erkan Çeliker, who said that “some games are being played over the TRNC,” answered Cem Kar’s questions on the Öğlen Ajansı program broadcast on Ada TV.

Assessing the negotiation process, Çeliker claimed that President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot administration leader Hristofyas were aiming to stall, and that some games were also being played over the TRNC. Çeliker said, “The aim of these games is to deepen the hopelessness of the Turkish Cypriot people in Northern Cyprus and shift the economy to the South. I believe that the CTP will make progress on the path to the EU with ‘one sovereignty, one citizenship, one passport.’”

Çeliker said that, instead of the policy currently being pursued of ‘one sovereignty, one citizenship,’ the Turkish Cypriot people should take their place in the European Union under the sovereignty of the TRNC.

Çeliker said they believed that the confederation state Hristofyas had proposed to the TRNC was a fantasy.
