Intraparty Violence...

It seems that peace is needed not only for the Cyprus issue; internal peace must be established in many areas of our country.

The latest example of this is the UBP...

The battle over the party leadership and district chair elections in the UBP had been going on for some time, but yesterday it emerged in its most painful form... The Minister of National Education, who announced that he would support Türkay Tokel, was dismissed, while Health Minister Ahmet Kaşif, who challenged the Prime Minister in the leadership race, is facing the same fate...

Was the rival eliminated?

Or did it grow?

Time will tell, and it would hardly be right to try to read the future and say, “this will happen” or “that will happen”...

But it seems that establishing internal peace in the UBP will not happen anytime soon...

What supports this view, without a doubt, is the question, “Why were these people dismissed?”...

From the UBP’s perspective, “they weren’t doing their jobs well” is not among the possible answers to this question!

In fact, that is the most troubling part of all...

I can’t help but wonder;

-If the UBP had 40 MPs, would they have left just enough to govern and excommunicated the rivals and their supporters from among the rest?

-If the situation were this dire, what should MPs dismissed and declared enemies do in a normal country?

-Do you not think that such an extreme level of intraparty violence would make the people subjected to it ill?

What really worries me is the possibility that this attitude will spread to many places...

Can you imagine? The people deciding our children’s future cannot even tolerate competition...

In other words, in this country, winning office through the people’s votes can also give you the power to cut the ticket of those who oppose you and those who support them...

The situation is dire, and I’m saddened...

What about you?
