There are many things on my mind lately, and my son is responsible for this…
Would you believe it? Sometimes I struggle to explain things to my five-and-a-half-year-old son… Yes, trying to explain things to children that age is always difficult, and they ask questions constantly (just as we did at that age). But the little one asks about the mess he sees around him in such a way that nothing I say seems to work…
—Dad, why have people thrown their trash here?
—Dad, why does the sea keep bringing plastic bags ashore?
—Dad, I found a cup in the sand. Did someone leave me a surprise?
—Dad, (seeing the rubble) are they building something here?
Etc…
When I think that, by the time he grows up, he won’t ask such innocent questions but will demand answers, the officials who are making the policies that are turning the country into a dump today will either be dead or very old…
When I think about all this, I can’t help questioning the legal system…
Could I file a lawsuit against today’s officials on behalf of my son?
Can a legal system that cannot even put today’s officials on trial judge them on behalf of the children to whom we will hand over the country—in other words, on behalf of the future?
It’s an interesting question. I don’t know what the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office would think, but I believe it should consider this…
I’m curious not only about their thoughts, but also about what today’s officials think…
I know it’s a futile curiosity; no doubt, if they were thinking about it, things wouldn’t be like this today…
Actually, it’s the same with everything. We say our culture is disappearing, yet we have a Ministry of Culture, and we don’t even see what they’re doing about it and/or know whether they’re aware of it…
And what about the other issues…
Do we think that every decision made today will affect our children’s lives tomorrow?
I suppose that if we were acting with this in mind, things wouldn’t be like this either…
Meanwhile, my son is beside me and asks:
—Dad, what are you writing?
Now, what am I going to tell him?
