Whose Excuse Is the Best?

Especially when it comes to the country’s problems and their causes, we have imposed our own versions of the truth on the public in line with our interests. And when our interests clash, our truths become a little different. We have seriously taken to seeking refuge in our excuses. Sometimes the world’s failure to recognize us serves our interests and can even become our greatest source of support. We readily invent traits unique to ourselves.

The strange thing is, we believe these things too. On the one hand, we say, “We need to care about the lack of a solution.” When we can’t get something done, the Cyprus problem suddenly becomes our biggest problem, so that our incompetence won’t come to light. Our excuses never run out. No one can beat us at making excuses instead of doing the job. No one explains how to get a job done.

By contrast, we always have a reason for what we can’t do and what we don’t do. When we get tired of our excuses, we change them with elections. We elect those who shout about change, only to find that it’s the excuses that have changed. We’re always hearing that some people are preventing others from doing their jobs. We’re made to believe that certain people’s entire purpose is to stop those we elect from getting things done.

Do we believe it? Refusing to come to our senses is our greatest experience and ability.

We don’t want to come to our senses.

We only talk about the state our country is in.

We know everything perfectly well and explain how to solve the problems. But when it comes to getting things done, none of us is anywhere to be seen...

Our excuses are our strongest source of support. But how long can this go on?

When will those among us who come up with solutions to problems and put them into practice without hiding behind excuses finally emerge?

When will those among us who can see the realities of the country, without thinking about their own interests or those of the groups they represent, and act for the benefit and in the interests of the people, govern us?

It won’t be long.

Don’t worry...
