“I Have Great Confidence in My Songs”

A full 10 years have passed since her last album, and Ebru Aydın has made some very candid and bold statements about her new album. Here are Ebru Aydın’s very special comments, given exclusively to Cem KAR…

Cem KAR: We know you’ve been working on your new album. What stage are the album preparations at?

Abru Aydın: We’re at the arrangement stage now. Together with my producers, Erhan Bayrak and Sinan Akçıl, we’re working to put the finishing touches on the songs.

So what kind of album will it be?

Actually, rather than an album, we’re planning to release a ‘maxi single’. It will have four songs. This maxi single, which will include remixes of one or two songs, has some very special surprises in store!

Could you give us a little hint about the surprises?

The HALKIN SESİ Newspaper has always supported me, so I’m giving you the first details about the maxi single. First of all, I should say that I have great confidence in my songs. There will be a song composed by Mustafa Sandal on this single! Dear Mustafa kindly gave me one of his songs. There’s also a slow song of my own, and I’m sure my listeners will love it. There’s another song that’s half mine and half Sinan Akçıl’s, and it’s a wonderful song too. There’ll also be another very beautiful song written by Sinan Akçıl alone. And, of course, apart from all these, the maxi single will also include a ‘cover’ of an old song…

When will the single be released?

It’s already been 10 years since my first album, so I can say that we’re being very meticulous. But we plan to finish it and release it this summer.

You continue to perform in the TRNC while working on the single. How are you managing this heavy workload?

I come here one day a week and perform at Cafe Harbour. The other six days, we work on the album in Erhan Bayrak’s studio in Istanbul. Things are going wonderfully at the moment, and we’re all happy…

As far as we know, your sister Pelin Aydın Kutluba, the lead singer of ‘Öldüren Şampanya’, is working with you on this project.

Yes, Pelin is also doing backing vocals on the songs. She’s giving me tremendous support, bless her.

You never lose touch with Cyprus. Have you ever thought about moving here?

I love the TRNC very much. I’ll definitely settle here. Living here is my biggest goal.

Ebru, I wish you success with your maxi single. And thank you for these candid comments.

As I said earlier, the HALKIN SESİ Newspaper has always supported me! I’m the one who should thank you for everything.
